To receive truly transformative funds?
Most discussion related to fundraising is built around the notion you’re your nonprofit must seek out philanthropic investments (donations, gifts, grant, whatever you wish to call them) to fulfill your missions.
Yes, that’s true. As far as it goes.
Very little thought is given, however, to whether you’re READY to receive these investments.
What the hell does that mean?
It means a couple of things.
First, do you properly view your donors/patrons as INVESTORS? And if, so in what are they investing?
Hint: if you think it’s your organization, you’re off base.
Second, if your DO see your donors as investors, how do you DEMONSTRATE this understanding?
Hint: If you think it’s about showering them with recognition or flooding them with stats of your success, here again, you’re off base.
Third, if you see your donors as investors, and demonstrate that fact, how do you keep your investors members of your inner circle? Your DNA?
Hint: If you think it’s Thanksgiving cards, Christmas cards, Birthday cards, etc., I suggest re-evaluating your strategy.
So, what is it I’m trying to say?
There is an incredible amount of unengaged wealth that is accessible to philanthropy that many nonprofits are simply ignoring.
This most likely includes your organization.
“Oh—but we’re not,” you say.
Let me just say, many nonprofits wouldn’t know a gift horse if they met one.
I venture that you are.
How do I know this?
Although most of my efforts are directed to nonprofits showing them how to create transformational fund development programs, I also serve as advisor, to HNW individuals—that’s “High Net Worth”—as I vet potential nonprofits which appeal to them.
So—rather than spend the bulk of your money and time attempting to get donors’ attention—try seeking to understand those who ALREADY support you and those who would if approached properly.
During the next few weeks, I’ll be talking more about this.
Soon, I’ll be announcing a series of wealth engagement seminars beginning in October. If you’d like to be included in these, just respond to this email with the message, “Sign me up.”
We’ll get back to you with all details.

We look forward to speaking with you.
